The U3A (or University of the Third Age) is a popular and ever expanding self-help organisation for people no longer in full-time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly and informal environment.
Scenic Sunday rambles of 8-10 miles throughout the year in the beautiful countryside and on the coast. Convenient coach transport to and from these walks, and at the lunchtime stop.
Wednesday walks of 4-8 miles throughout the year,usually accessible with public transport. Occasional fun social events and coach outings (such as to the London theatre or on river trips etc). An annual holiday to different locations in the UK with coach transport and accommodation. Lovely walks are arranged for those wishing to take part. All ages are welcome.This is a great opportunity to make lasting friendships while getting exercise and fresh air.
Bournemouth U3A was formed in 1987 and has grown year by year so that now we have over 1,000 members. Education and leisure courses form the core activity. We have well in excess of 100 classes which are held during the day and are led in a relaxed and informal way by unpaid enthusiasts.

Footloose 303 is a friendly walking group based in the South Somerset / Taunton area. We walk every weekend, have evening walks in the summer and we have a social dimension as well. Walks are varied and are 8 miles plus. Our age range is mainly 40s and 50s and we are primarily aimed at those who do not have partners to walk with.
The Dorset group organises walks throughout the year, usually on the 2nd Sunday of the month. The typical length is 6 to 9 miles. Our group consists mainly of men in the 30 to 70 range. We do occasionally have women on our walks and they are always made welcome.
Walking is free, fun and a great form of physical activity. The Three Rivers Partnership has a Health Walks Group known as Gillingham Walkers. There are lots of benefits of walking as a group including meeting new people, having a good chat, discovering new areas of the town and above all having fun together.
The Heritage Coast Lyme Regis U3A was founded in November 2005 and currently has a membership of approximately 600 from Lyme Regis and the surrounding area.
Poole U3A is part of an exciting world-wide movement which aims to provide educational and recreational facilities for those no longer in full-time employment.
Purbeck U3A is affiliated to the International Organisation and actively supports a wide programme of activities and social events locally. The programme is fully motivated and supported from within using the skills, resources, and backgrounds of individual members. The annual subscription is just £16, with membership open to all who share our aims.
SGU3A provides a wide range of enjoyable, educational, creative, and leisure activities on a self-help basis for those at, or nearing, retirement and living in the Shaftesbury and Gillingham area of Dorset.
We arrange a programme of friendly midweek and weekend 4-9 mile walks of easy to moderate grade in Dorset with an emphasis on the Purbeck area.
We invite you to come along and join us. You will be most welcome and will become part of a friendly and relaxed social group.
As a U3A branch, we are committed to the principle of sharing or advancing knowledge among older people and providing facilities for leisure time and recreational activities for such persons. The annual fee is £15 which covers as many activities as you wish to join, although some of those activities will also have a cost for materials or room hire.
U3As are like universities in the original sense of the word - communities of people who come together to learn from one another. U3As are learning cooperatives of older people. By offering many educational, creative and leisure activities to their members, they encourage positive ageing.
Upton and Lytchett U3A can replace the nice bits of work; mental and (gentle) physical activity, companionship and of course gossip. We are a lively and friendly organisation offering a wide range of study and interest groups. Anyone who is semi-retired or retired is eligible to join up to 3 groups. It's a good way to meet people and make new friends.
Verwood U3A offers opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to share learning experiences in a range of activities, pursuing learning and exploration, there are no tests or examinations, just the opportunity for self fulfilment.
Wimborne U3A is a part of the University of the 3rd Age, providing a range of volunteer-led activities to anyone no longer in full-time employment, who lives in Wimborne or the surrounding area.
Ferndown U3A was founded in 1998 and currently has in excess of 500 members, from Ferndown and the surrounding areas. It is a voluntary organisation for retired and semi-retired people. Members share their skills and experiences by offering educational, creative and leisure activities. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. There are no entry qualifications and no examinations.
